Benny Blanco's mother advised him to marry Selena Gomez; understand
Benny Blanco, 38, revealed that his mother Sandra Levin advised him to marry Selena Gomez, 33, many years before he walked down the aisle with the star.
The music producer said that the episode occurred in 2019 while filming a music video with the actress and singer. According to him, Sandra showed that a mother's intuition never fails and insisted that the couple would be the ideal match.
During a recent episode of the "Friends Keep Secrets" podcast, Benny said: "In 2019, I was filming a music video with Selena. I was dating someone else, okay?"
"My mom was on set and said, 'Son, you should marry Selena'. I said, 'What?' And she said, 'You should date someone like Selena.'"
Although Benny and Selena didn't have a close relationship at the time, he revealed that he loved spending time with her.
"A couple of times I walked out of a session or a set with her and thought, 'Damn, she's really cool. She's really cool.'"
Benny also revealed that an old girlfriend noticed his admiration for Selena and contacted him to congratulate him after his wedding.
"An ex-girlfriend of mine, from way before that, about five years before, was texting me once and said, 'It's wonderful that you two got married. I remember you speaking so highly of Selena even when we were together'. Just as a friendly thing really."
The star confirmed that Sandra "planted the seed" for him and Selena to get married, after actor Aaron Paul, a guest on the podcast, asked if it was his mother who came up with the idea.
Benny added: "She said, '[Selena] knows what she wants in life. She's so sweet, she's this and that.'"
"Everyone says you always marry your best friend. That's how it works. And she's my best friend."
The two started dating in mid-2023 and, in December 2024, they announced their engagement. In September 2025, Benny and Selena were married in an intimate ceremony in Santa Barbara, California.
