Bellingham on Kane: "England's best player of all time"
Harry Kane further expanded his collection of brands with the England shirt. By finding the net in the 2-0 victory over Panama, in the final round of the World Cup group stage, the striker reached 82 goals for the national team, further isolated himself as the country's top scorer in history and achieved another feat: he became the Englishman with the most goals in World Cups, now with 11.
In an interview with the BBC in London, the English captain stated that the record has a special meaning precisely because it was achieved in the main tournament in world football.
"It's a source of pride, for sure. Before the tournament, I said that the World Cup is the biggest competition we play in as professional players. So to reach 11 goals brings a sense of pride," said Kane.
The number 9, who is competing in his third World Cup, also said that he prefers to enjoy the moment instead of thinking about the weight of records.
"It's always difficult to take it all in. I just want to enjoy this moment with the team and enjoy the fact that we're at the top. I never take these moments for granted. It's another important milestone achieved, and I hope it won't be the last in this tournament."
In the race for top scorer in the World Cup, Kane scored again after failing in the previous round, against Ghana, and minimized the particular dispute with other great attackers in the competition: Messi, Mbappé, Dembélé and Haaland.
"They started strong. Messi has five goals, Haaland and Mbappé have four. I try not to think about them. I know you, the press, will compare me to them; that's how it works. But after coming up short in the last game, as a striker, I wanted to score again as quickly as possible."
After the match, Kane also received praise from Jude Bellingham, scorer of the first goal and responsible for the assist for the second. At the press conference, the midfielder revealed that the partnership between the two gained strength after the World Cup in Qatar and classified his teammate as the greatest player in the history of the English team.
"I think we built a very good relationship, especially after the Qatar Cup, playing close together. It's an honor to play with him. He's England's best player of all time. I think he left a bigger mark than any other player in England's history. He's an excellent player, of an absurd level. I have no doubt about how much he gives himself and makes a difference, as he did today," declared Bellingham.
