The Belgium team is using special preparation to deal with one of the challenges of the 2026 World Cup: the heat. On the eve of the debut against Egypt, Swiss-Belgian midfielder Switzel revealed that the players have spent more than 20 minutes in sauna sessions after training to try to adapt their bodies to the high temperatures expected during the tournament.
The concern is no coincidence. The match between Belgium and Egypt will be played in Seattle at noon local time, precisely on the day that the United States National Weather Service predicts the hottest day of the year in the city. The thermal sensation at the time of the game can reach 33°C.
The topic has been a recurring concern among teams competing in the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Unlike the Qatar Cup, held between November and December to escape the intense heat of the Middle East, the 2026 edition takes place during the summer in the Northern Hemisphere, a period in which several host cities record high temperatures.
