Before the World Cup, Bielsa sets a date to leave Uruguay; look

Coach Marcelo Bielsa announced, this Thursday (21), that he will leave command of Uruguay after the 2026 World Cup. The announcement was made at an event organized by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) at Antel Arena, in Montevideo.

"Our work culminates with the World Cup. I will thank Uruguay for the rest of my life for allowing me to enjoy a competition like the World Cup", declared the 70-year-old Argentine coach.

Bielsa arrived at Celeste Olímpica in May 2023, replacing Uruguayan Marcelo Broli. This is the third time that the coach will lead a team in the World Cup, after managing Argentina in 2002 and Chile in 2010.

Uruguay is part of Group H of the 2026 World Cup, alongside Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Spain. The South Americans' debut will take place on June 15th, at 7pm (Brasília time), against the Asian team.
