Bebel and Olavo, from "Paraíso Tropical", win vertical soap opera on Globoplay

The iconic characters Bebel and Olavo, played by Camila Pitanga, 49, and Wagner Moura, 49, in the soap opera "Paraíso Tropical", will gain prominence in a new vertical soap opera on Globoplay. The project will be a compact summary of the characters' trajectories, with short episodes of up to two minutes.

Originally broadcast in 2007, "Paraíso Tropical" had the couple as one of the highlights due to the provocative and passionate dynamic between the two.

In the plot, created by Gilberto Braga and Ricardo Linhares, Bebel is an ambitious prostitute who becomes involved with Olavo, an arrogant businessman. The two begin a relationship marked by desire and dangerous power plays.

The best-known scene between Camila Pitanga and Wagner Moura is the moment when Olavo declares himself to Bebel in tears, in the middle of the street. "You're the dumbest dog on this boardwalk", he says before finishing. "Because you just haven't seen that I love you too."

The new production is part of Globo's commitment to vertical content, derived from iconic plots and names in dramaturgy. The platform has already done the same with characters like Angel (Camila Queiroz), from "Verdades Secretas" (2015), and Bibi (Juliana Paes), from "A Força do Querer" (2017).
