Bayern star reveals hope of playing in the World Cup: "Anything is possible"

The main star of the Canadian national team, Alphonso Davies, stated that he still believes in the possibility of being on the field in the team's debut in the World Cup, scheduled for June 12th, against Bosnia, in Toronto.

The 25-year-old has been sidelined since May 6, when he suffered a muscle injury to the back of his left thigh during the Champions League semi-final between Bayern and PSG.

Davies later reported to the Canadian national team after following a recovery plan drawn up jointly by Bayern and Canada.

"The first match is coming up very quickly. Everyone understands the importance of this game, but we also know that recovery is essential. If I'm progressing well, we'll see. Otherwise, there's no reason to speed up the process," said the player.

When asked about the possibility of playing on his debut, the full-back preferred to remain cautious, but did not rule out a return.

"Everything is possible in life. For me, it all depends on how the recovery progresses in the next few days and in the week leading up to departure."

Davies has scored 15 goals in 58 games for the Canadian national team and made history by scoring the country's first goal in a World Cup, in the tournament played in Qatar, in 2022. He was also voted Concacaf's best player twice, in 2021 and 2022.

The defender has not played for Canada since March 2025, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during the final phase of the Concacaf Nations League. Since then, he has faced a series of physical problems, including his current muscle injury.

"It was very mentally exhausting going through all these injuries. There were moments when I doubted myself and even the possibility of playing in the World Cup. But I had time to reflect on why I did this and how important it is for me," he said.

Hosting the World Cup alongside the United States and Mexico, Canada is in Group B and will also face Qatar, on June 18, and Switzerland, on June 24, both games in Vancouver.
