Basel Index reaches 17.24% in December 2025, points out BC

The Basel Index of the National Financial System (SFN) reached 17.24% in December 2025, according to the Financial Stability Report (REF) for the second half of last year, released this Monday, 25th, by the Central Bank (BC).

In June last year, the index was 17.32% (revised, 17.36%).

The Basel Index is an international concept, defined by the Basel Committee, which establishes a minimum relationship between the Reference Equity (PR) and the risk-weighted assets (RWA) of banks.

Brazilian financial institutions must comply with a minimum index of 8%. This means that for every R$100 a bank lends, it needs to have at least R$8.
