Barcelona announced this Friday (29) the signing of striker Anthony Gordon, formerly of Newcastle. The 25-year-old Englishman signed a five-year contract with the current Spanish champions.

The negotiation values were not officially disclosed, but the British press reports that the Catalan club offered 80 million euros (around R$472 million), in addition to goal bonuses.

Gordon scored 17 goals for Newcastle this season, 10 of them in 12 Champions League matches. Despite good individual performance, the English team only finished 12th in the Premier League and was left out of European competitions.

Recently, coach Eddie Howe admitted that the player could leave the club, amid interest from Bayern Munich. However, it was Barcelona who completed the signing.

Signed from Everton in January 2023, Gordon played 152 games for Newcastle, with 39 goals and 28 assists. The striker also helped the club end a 70-year drought without titles by winning the English League Cup last season.

The Englishman joins other England players who play abroad, such as Harry Kane, from Bayern Munich, Jude Bellingham, from Real Madrid, and Ivan Toney, from Al-Ahli.
