Bank worker is killed after falling victim to the "false delivery scam" in São Paulo

The Civil Police of São Paulo are investigating a robbery - robbery followed by death - that happened this Friday (22), in Vila Formosa, east of the capital.

According to investigations, retired bank employee Celso Luiz Pavani, aged 62, was killed after being the victim of a scam known as the "false delivery scam".

The man was at home when he was surprised by the ringing of a doorbell. Upon leaving the residence's gate, he found a car parked in front of the house and two people with a cardboard box in their hands.

The two suspects informed Pavani that it was a delivery. The retiree responded saying that he had not asked for anything. Afterwards, the two men tried to pull him into the car.

According to the police report, the man shouted for help, at which point the armed suspects fired, hitting Pavani in the head. Both fled shortly after the crime.

According to investigations, the retiree's wife was not at home when he was approached.

According to the SSP (Public Security Secretariat), the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was called and the death was confirmed at the scene. The case was registered as a robbery in the 56th Police District (Vila Formosa).

Also according to the SSP, the individuals have not been identified and are still being sought.

Pilot death
This is at least the eighth robbery that occurred in the city of São Paulo, within a period of 40 days.

Last Tuesday (19), helicopter pilot Odailton de Oliveira Silva, known as Dato de Oliveira, aged 70, died after being the victim of a gunshot, on Avenida do Rio Pequeno, in the Rio Pequeno neighborhood, west zone of São Paulo.

According to preliminary information, an individual on a motorcycle announced the robbery to the driver of a vehicle and fired a shot. After the action, the criminal fled.
