Austrian man who planned attack on Taylor Swift concert sentenced to 15 years in prison

An Austrian court sentenced to 15 years in prison, this Thursday (28), a 21-year-old man who admitted to having planned a foiled Islamic attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, in 2024. He was found guilty of several crimes, most of them related to terrorism.
The defendant, a Austrian identified as Beran A, had already pleaded guilty in April. The boy was arrested on August 7, 2024, the day before the first of three concerts planned by the American pop star in Vienna.

All three dates were cancelled, to the consternation of fans and Swift herself, who later wrote that it was "devastating". The trial in Wiener Neustadt, near Vienna, is focused on more than this planned attack.
Beran A is also accused, along with Slovakian Arda K, of planning attacks in the Middle East that were not carried out, and of supporting a third man who was arrested on suspicion of carrying out a knife attack in Mecca.

"I plead guilty in part," Beran A said at the start of his interrogation for judge. Asked if he pleaded guilty to charges relating to the planned attack on the concert, he stated: "Yes."
Prosecutors accused Beran A of using Islamic State video instructions on how to make a shrapnel bomb, producing a small amount of the explosive triacetone peroxide and attempting to illegally purchase weapons including a machine gun and a hand grenade for the planned attack.
He was charged with several terrorism-related offenses as well as membership of a criminal organization and make a dangerous threat, and could face 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted.
