One person died and another was seriously injured this Sunday (28) after a shooting at a well-known entertainment center in San Jose, California, a place that houses a "fan zone" showing World Cup games, police said.
There were no tournament matches being broadcast at the time of the attack. The only game of the day had ended at around 2pm local time.
"One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a hospital in the region with potentially fatal injuries", published the San Jose police on platform X (formerly Twitter). "The incident is being investigated as a homicide. Several surrounding streets were closed."

A Reuters journalist at the scene reported a heavy police presence, several vehicles and a person on a stretcher, partially covered by a white sheet, being hastily removed by uniformed officers. The area was isolated and most of the surrounding bars closed after the incident.
A security professional, who asked not to be identified because she was not authorized to speak to the press, reported seeing the injured victim in critical condition. "The person was still moaning. There was blood in the neck area and upper back," he said. "The police were taking statements from security and some witnesses."
There are dozens of fan zones spread across the San Francisco Bay Area.
