Atlético-MG wins in São Januário and puts Vasco in the Z4 of the Brasileirão

Clube Atlético Mineiro beat Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama 1-0 this Sunday (31), at Estádio São Januário, in the 18th round of the Brazilian Series A Championship.

The only goal of the match was scored by defender Vitor Hugo, in the 32nd minute of the first half, following a corner kick by Bernard. With the result, Vasco entered the Relegation Zone, with 20 points. With the victory, Rooster reaches 9th place.

Vasco started better and created the main chance in the opening minutes. In the first minute, Spinelli headed dangerously and forced Everson to make a great save.

The Rio team continued to press and almost opened the scoring in the ninth minute, when Johan Rojas took advantage of an error in Atletica's ball and finished in the area, but Renan Lodi stopped at the right time.

Atlético-MG took a while to attack, but grew after 30 minutes. Reinier forced Léo Jardim to make a good save with a placed shot and, afterwards, Galo's goal came from an aerial play by Vitor Hugo.

Still in the first half, Reinier was once again frightening with a strong shot saved by Léo Jardim. In the final stage, Atlético had the chance to expand on the counterattack with Tomás Pérez, but the midfielder finished weakly.

Vasco tried to press in search of a draw and created opportunities mainly from set pieces and mid-range shots.

Puma Rodríguez almost scored with a low free kick, while Adson and Bruno Lopes forced Everson to make good saves in the final minutes.

Despite the pressure from Vasco at the end of the match, Atlético managed to hold on to the result until stoppage time and ended the sequence before the World Cup break with an away victory.
