Atlas of Violence: See the most and least violent municipalities in Brazil

Brazil recorded 42,590 homicides in 2024, according to the "Atlas of Violence 2026", released by Ipea (Institute of Applied Economic Research) in partnership with the FBSP (Brazilian Public Security Forum) this Tuesday morning (26).

In a sample of municipalities, 17 of the 20 most violent are located in the Northeast. The highest estimated homicide rates occurred in the states of Amapá, Bahia, Pernambuco, Alagoas and Ceará.

On the other hand, the least violent in terms of estimated homicides were in the states of São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Minas Gerais.

- Maranguape (CE) - estimated homicide rate of 87.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants Caucaia (CE) - estimated homicide rate of 72.9 per 100 thousand inhabitants
- Juazeiro (BA) - estimated homicide rate of 71.1 per 100 thousand inhabitants
- Feira de Santana (BA) - estimated homicide rate of 67 per 100 thousand inhabitants estimated homicide rate of 64 per 100 thousand inhabitants
- Camaçari (BA) - estimated homicide rate of 62.9 per 100 thousand inhabitants

- Jaraguá do Sul (SC) - homicide rate of 2 per 100 thousand inhabitants
- Brusque (SC) - homicide rate of 2.6 per 100 thousand inhabitants
- Santa Bárbara D'oeste (SP) - homicide rate of 3.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants inhabitants
