At NATO, Trump says he 'was testing' European allies during war in Iran: 'Very disappointed'

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Tuesday (7) at a NATO summit that he "was testing" European allies during the war against Iran, and that he is "very disappointed" with the result.

"The US was not treated well by NATO. We had no help [during the war in Iran] and before I even asked they said they wouldn't be there for us. And we invested trillions of dollars in the defense of Europe. I thought they would be very willing to help us. We didn't need the help, but I was testing them. (...) I was very disappointed with NATO. (...) It's okay, but then why are we spending hundreds of billions of dollars since they are not there for us?" Trump said.
Trump's speech took place on the first day of a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, alongside Turkish President Recep Erdogan. The American president also suggested that he attended the event only because it was being held in Turkey, because other countries in the alliance "treated the US badly", according to him.
