Assets in Tesouro Direto grow 47% in one year, says B3
The wealth of individual investors in Treasury Direct securities on B3 grew 47% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, reaching R$221.2 billion.
The data is part of a survey released by the stock exchange on the evolution of investors in the country.
The growth occurred amid the expansion of the investor base and the greater diversification of portfolios. In variable income, the assets in custody increased by 25% in the annual comparison. In fixed income, the increase was 19%.
The investor base also grew. Variable income reached 5.6 million individual investors, an increase of 6% in one year.
At Tesouro Direto, the number of investors increased by 13%, to 3.3 million. Fixed income added 104.8 million investors, growth of 9%.
Index funds, known as ETFs, recorded one of the biggest advances in the period. The number of individual investors grew 35% in one year, reaching 823.4 thousand. Equity invested in these products increased by 72%, to R$31.1 billion.
Currently, individuals represent more than 25% of the total equity invested in ETFs at B3.
"Brazil always follows the international movement towards the consolidation of new products and this will be no different with ETFs. The numbers on the evolution of investors during this period confirm that we are passing through the inflection point in the growth of ETFs, which contributes to greater diversification of portfolios", says Felipe Paiva, director of Customer and Individual Relations at B3.
According to the data released, between 2020 and 2025, the number of Tesouro Direto investors grew by 83% in the North Region and 85% in the Northeast Region, indicating an expansion of access to the product outside the country's main financial centers.
In the stock market, the exchange counted 4 million individual investors, with R$435.6 billion in assets under custody, an increase of 19% compared to the first quarter of 2025. The listed funds brought together 3.3 million investors and R$204 billion in custody, an increase of 31%.
The survey also showed an increase in the median balance of investors in Tesouro Direto. The value went from around R$2,000 to R$2,800 in one year, a growth of 37%.
Bonds linked to the basic interest rate and inflation, such as Treasury Selic and Treasury IPCA+, account for more than 70% of the stock in custody.
In May, STN and B3 launched the Treasury Reserve, a security with a minimum investment of R$1 and trading available every day of the week.
