Arrascaeta is linked by Uruguay to play against Spain in the World Cup
Midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta is one of the main news in Uruguay's squad for the decisive clash against Spain, this Friday (26). The player, Celeste's number 10, was listed by the technical committee and will start the match on the bench, valid for the last round of Group H of the World Cup.
Arrascaeta was absent from the team in the first two matches of the World Cup, against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, due to a muscle injury suffered in training. Uruguay drew 1-1 in their debut and 2-2 afterwards, increasing the pressure for results.
The midfielder's inclusion on the list is surprising, as coach Marcelo Bielsa himself had ruled out his presence in the game. "Araújo will not play against Spain. Neither him nor Arrascaeta", declared Bielsa after the draw against Cape Verde.
Uruguay's situation in the World Cup
Ronald Araújo, a defender also mentioned by Bielsa on the same occasion, will also start the match on the bench. The Uruguayan team arrives under pressure for the last round of the group stage. With just two points, the result of draws against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, Celeste needs a victory over Spain to guarantee its place without depending on other results.
Leader of Group H with four points, Spain has a more comfortable situation. A draw against Uruguay already guarantees first place in the group for the Spanish.
