Ariana Grande debuts "Hate That I Made You Love Me" at the top of Spotify
Singer Ariana Grande, 32, debuted her new song, "Hate That I Made You Love Me", at the top of Spotify Global. The first single from the new era of the North American was the most listened to song in the world on the platform on Friday (29).
The release had almost 8.8 million plays in 24 hours, leaving behind two old hits that had been dominating the charts: "Billie Jean", by Michael Jackson, and "Beauty And A Beat", by Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj. The first resurfaced with strength after the release of the biopic "Michael" and the second grew after the Canadian singer's performance at Coachella, the main music festival in the world.
In Brazil, Ariana's song debuted in seventh place on Spotify's Top 50 and dethroned "Swim", by BTS, to become the most listened to foreign song in the country, with 755 thousand plays. She also left behind some of the biggest national hits of the moment, such as "Pra Não Esquecer de Mim" (Aaron Modesto, MC Magal, MC Meno K and DJ Glenner), "Se Saudade Sentir" (MC Livinho, MC Pedrinho, Perera DJ and DJ JB Mix) and "Carnívoro" (Jacaré, MC Lele JP, MC Negão Original and DJ Japa NK).
"Hate That I Made You Love Me" is the first song released from "Petal", Ariana Grande's eighth studio album, which hits music platforms on July 31st. The song will also have a music video featuring actor Justin Long, known for works such as "He Não Está Tão A Fim de Você" (2009) and "A Hora do Mal" (2025), on Monday (1st).
Ariana has already said that "Petal" brings out a side that she had avoided exploring until then.
"It's about something full of life growing through the cracks of something cold, hard and challenging. It's kind of about breaking away from different types of negative attachments, whether it's my own monsters in my head, external voices or things that no longer serve me," he said.
The actress performed with "Wicked" last year and stated that the album also presents a more impulsive side of her personality, different from what she used to show publicly.
"It comes from a place that perhaps I was too shy or polite to explore before, and it just has a 'screw it' feel."
Ariana's last work was with "Eternal Sunshine", in 2024, which has hits like "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" and "Yes, And?".
