The team responsible for the program "El Show del Verano", on Luzu TV, was fired after broadcasting false information live about the death of Jorge Messi, father of player Lionel Messi. Presenter Florencia Peña, involved in the episode, also decided to leave the channel after the repercussions of the case.
During the broadcast, Peña stated: "I don't want to give bad news, but Messi's father has just died." She also suggested that the player could leave the World Cup due to the alleged loss.
The statement quickly reverberated on social media and spread within minutes, leading the Messi family to release an official statement denying the information. In the text, it was clarified that Jorge Messi is facing health problems, but is recovering in hospital.

After the repercussions, Peña tried to recant and apologized to the athlete's family. "I apologize to the Messi family for the terrible time I imagine they are going through," he wrote on social media.
"I am deeply embarrassed to have been the vehicle of this pain. I need to clarify that this false information was provided to me during the live broadcast as if it was confirmed by the program's production team, and I trusted it. Still, I take responsibility for being part of the mistake, and that is why I decided to step aside and end my participation in Luzu. I apologize again, from the bottom of my heart; I was wrong."
The broadcaster also commented in an official statement. "We deeply regret the incident that occurred during the broadcast of the program," Luzu TV said. "For our channel, transmitting sensitive information without due prior verification is unacceptable."
According to the company, the decision was to break ties with those responsible for the error. "We reaffirm our commitment to responsible, respectful and rigorous communication", concluded the broadcaster.
