Argentina cuts taxes on wheat, barley to ease tight agricultural margins, says Rosario grain exchange

Argentina's planned cut in export taxes on wheat and barley will give farmers some relief as they make final planting decisions for the 2026/27 season, the Rosario grain exchange said on Friday (22), after President Javier Milei announced the measures a day earlier.
The government said that the tax rate on both crops will fall from 7.5% to 5.5% starting in June.

The Rosário exchange estimated that the measure would raise wheat purchase prices by about 2.2% to 2.3%, or approximately US$4.8 to US$4.9 per metric ton, helping to offset higher fuel, fertilizer and shipping costs which reached the producers' margins.
The measure comes at a time when the planting of winter grains in Argentina begins. In mid-May, official data showed that wheat sowing was underway in Entre Rios, Tucumán, Catamarca and Santiago del Estero, while barley planting had advanced in parts of Buenos Aires and other areas. of wheat and the world's largest exporter of processed soy products.
