Anvisa recalls antibiotic after piece of glass found in bottle

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) ordered the recall of a batch of the antibiotic Polycid, after the company located a piece of glass in the ampoule bottle inside an ampoule bottle. The announcement was published in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) this Thursday (18).

The União Química Farmacêutica Nacional recalled batch 2519879 voluntarily and, as determined by Anvisa, is prohibited from marketing and distributing the medicine. Use should also be suspended immediately.

Polycid is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections.

In addition to the medicine, seven other medicines were inspected. Among them, there is the recall of Equiplex's physiological sodium chloride solution, due to deviations related to the quality of batch 2513588.

Anvisa also suspended batch 24101854 of Hypofarma brand clindamycin phosphate, marketed as Hyclin. According to Anvisa, the medicine also presented a quality flaw in the product, such as a yellowish color and the presence of foreign bodies inside the sealed bottle.

Another three medicines were seized because they did not have operating authorization from the supervisory agency. Among them are more than eight beauty anesthetics, a food supplement Glowena and a food supplement for weight loss Masterfitone.

In addition, an anabolic steroid for veterinary use of the trenbolone type was banned by Anvisa in relation to the marketing and use of the medicine. Like the others, it does not have an authorization record from the health surveillance agency and, therefore, it is not possible to conclude whether it meets national quality and safety standards.

All medicines handled by Farmácia S J do Jabour Ltda, known as Farmacam, were also suspended. According to the agency, they were sold openly to the public, but needed to be sold only with prescription by professionals.
