Anvisa orders the collection of batches of counterfeit hormone and stolen medicine

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) ordered the collection and seizure of batches of a counterfeit hormone and an oncology medication that had allegedly been stolen from cargo in Europe and used illegally in Brazil. The decision was published in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) this Monday (15).

The measure also prohibits the commercialization, distribution, import and use of products throughout the national territory.

According to Anvisa, counterfeit units of Criscy, a somatropin-based medication used to treat growth hormone deficiency in children and adults, were identified.

The packaging had differences from the original product, such as manufacturing and expiration dates, as well as a non-existent batch number (22030133).

The irregularities were detected by Cristália Produtos Químicos Farmacêuticos, the company responsible for registering the medicine in Brazil, which reported having identified replicated and counterfeit units. According to them, the origin of the products is unknown, which compromises their quality, safety and effectiveness.

Anvisa also ordered the recall of batch 4A010AA27 of Kimmtrak, a medicine indicated for the treatment of a rare type of eye cancer.

According to the agency, the batch was stolen during the transport of cargo in Europe and began to be sold and used irregularly in Brazil.

The information about the product was provided by Medison Pharma Brasil Produtos Farmacêuticos Ltda., the company that obtains the registration of the medicine in the country.
