Ansu Fati's father criticizes his absence in Spain's squad: "Top level"

Ansu Fati's father regretted the striker's absence from the Spanish squad for the 2026 World Cup. In an interview with the EremNews portal, Bori Fati stated that his son ended the season at a high level at Monaco and said he did not understand the choice of coach Luis de la Fuente.

According to the player's father, the striker's recent performance was better than other names called up by Spain.

"He finished the French league with Monaco at a higher level than any other Spanish striker. But if the team didn't see him like that, there's nothing left to do," he said.

Despite the criticism, Bori acknowledged that the lack of sequence in recent seasons hampered Ansu Fati's return to the national team. Since the World Cup in Qatar, the striker has been on loan in search of more minutes on the field.

In the 2023/24 season, he played for Brighton & Hove Albion. In 2025/26, he played for Monaco, the club for which he ended the season in technical recovery.

"If Ansu had been regular for a long time, he would certainly have returned to the national team. That's evident. He was coming from a difficult period, in which he wasn't playing. He finished the season very well, but Luis de la Fuente trusts other players and we have to respect that," he said.

Revealed by Barcelona's youth teams, Ansu Fati emerged as one of La Masía's great promises and debuted in the main team at the age of 16, in the 2019/20 season. The trajectory, however, was marked by repeated injuries, which affected the striker's sequence and development.

The 23-year-old player remains linked to Barcelona until June 2028.
