ANP suspends decision on fractional sale of LPG

The ANP (National Petroleum Agency) suspended this Friday (12) the discussion of the new rules for the sale and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), cooking gas.

The proposal included a possible fractional sale of the cylinder and the removal of marks from the cylinders.

According to the agency, the measures were taken to prioritize actions in response to the impacts of the conflict in the Middle East on the Brazilian fuel market. The initiative includes economic subsidies for diesel, gasoline and cooking gas, announced earlier by the ANP.

Possible changes to the sector's regulatory framework were on the agenda of the ANP board meeting held on May 29, but the debate was postponed at the rapporteur's request to "deepen" the assessment.

In a note sent to CNN, the ANP highlighted that, if the proposals are approved by the board, they will still be subject to public consultation and hearing.

"The objective of the review of the distribution and resale regulatory framework by the ANP is to contribute to the development of the LPG (cooking gas) market and access to the product by different segments of society, to the benefit of consumer prices, preserving adequate safety levels", he pointed out.

Also according to the ANP, the suspension seeks to focus teams on actions considered priorities given the uncertain scenario.
