ANP postpones discussion on new rules for the sale of LPG

The ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) postponed this Friday (29) the discussion of the new rules for the sale and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), cooking gas.

In a note, the agency stated that the item was removed from the agenda of the board meeting at the request of the process rapporteur, in order to deepen discussions on the topic.

The proposal, which analyzes the change in rules as a possible fractional sale of the cylinder and the removal of brands from the cylinders, will be considered again by the ANP board on the 12th.

The topic divides the sector, which on the one hand points out points in favor of relaxing the rules, and on the other, unfavorable ones.

According to Sindigás (National Union of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Distribution Companies), possible changes could compromise the traceability of cylinders, making it difficult to hold economic agents accountable and reducing consumer protection.

Also according to the entity, the flexibility could affect the patrimonial rights of containers and cause competitive distortions in the LPG market.

For the president of the union, Sergio Bandeira de Mello, the end of the exclusive right to fill cylinders by distributors will disorganize the market, favoring unfair competition.

"The entity will continue to contribute technically to the regulatory debate and defends that any change in the sector's rules is based on sustainable economic evidence, practical validation and broad legal certainty", he said in a note sent to CNN.
