ANP monitors fuels in the North Region to reduce the impact of El Niño
The ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) reported that it is already monitoring fuel supplies in the Northern Region during the dry period. The objective is to minimize potential impacts on the national fuel supply related to the climate risk associated with El Niño in 2026.
"The ANP's preventive action seeks to anticipate logistical risks arising from the reduction in the navigability of rivers in the Northern Region, contributing to the security of the national fuel supply", explained the agency in a note.
As of the 7th of this month, the agency will participate in the start of work in the monitoring room coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), designed to monitor the situation in the North Region during the dry period.
"This initiative is part of the preventive work that the ANP has been carrying out, since 2023, to monitor the supply of fuel in the Northern Region during the dry period. To date, the agency has monitored the two biggest droughts in history ever recorded in the region, without any occurrences of fuel shortages being verified", explained the ANP in a note this Friday, 3.
The companies Amazongás, Fogás, Atem, Vibra, Raízen, Ipiranga, Ecuador, Ream and Petrobras participate in monitoring with the ANP. The plans sent by the agents are being analyzed by the agency and will serve as a basis for preparing the 2026 Northern Region Supply Report, the agency said.
Between July 6th and 10th, the ANP will hold individual meetings with these agents to discuss in detail the contingency plans presented, evaluate the planned actions and identify any additional necessary measures.
The ANP will request contingency plans from the main agents responsible for supplying the region, holding technical meetings to discuss the planned actions and consolidating the information in a specific report to monitor supply in the Northern Region.
The report considers the main measures adopted by agents, the identification of points of attention, opportunities for improvement and possible actions necessary to maintain supply during the dry period.
Also according to the ANP, monitoring work begins annually in the first half of the year, before the most critical period of the drought. For 2026, the agency has already requested the presentation of contingency plans from the main agents working to supply the North Region.
The agency also participated in meetings coordinated by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) to prepare contingency plans for isolated electrical energy systems, including discussions regarding the states of Amazonas (22/06/2026) and Acre and Rondônia (01/07/2026).
