Angelina Jolie says she is preparing her children for her death due to a history of cancer

After playing a woman who faces breast cancer while in a career crisis, Angelina Jolie reflected on the impact the disease had on her personal life.

The 51-year-old actress already underwent a double mastectomy in 2013 as a way of preventing the disease as she carries the BRCA1 gene, which increases the risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer.

"I educate my children almost preparing them for my absence, and not so much to be grandparents", he said. "That's what happens when you consider death as a reality," she said in an interview with the American magazine Variety.

Angelina said she had this view precisely because of her family's history of cancer. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died at the age of 56 after battling ovarian cancer for years and also lost her grandmother to a tumor.

"It's very impactful to realize that we are all going to die, that we are not here forever. Having lost my mother young and never knowing my grandmother, I never lived with the feeling that I would have a long life. I'm past the age when my mother was diagnosed. Maybe I suffer because I feel like I can't live in the present moment, because I feel like I need to hurry up and act fast because time is running out."

Jolie's recent role is as Maxine, a filmmaker of low-budget horror films who is diagnosed with breast cancer in the midst of a divorce. The film is called "Couture - Vidas Interlaçadas" and is scheduled to be released on June 26th.

Before separating from Brad Pitt, 62, with whom she stayed for around 11 years, she took a break from acting work to focus on directing. But after the separation in 2016, he wanted to spend more time with his children, so he returned to acting.

In the same interview, the actress said that she had come from a period of discouragement, but feels that now her fighting spirit is back thanks to the children she had with the actor.

"My kids are almost 18, so now they want to see me traveling the world, they want me to go out and do things. They know me better than anyone and they still like me. I think they really encourage me to take back aspects of myself that maybe I wouldn't feel as free to explore."

Together, the former couple have six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, Knox, 17, and Vivienne, 17.
