Android starts detecting possible fake calls made with AI

Google announced a resource for Android capable of identifying fake calls made by scammers and alerting potential victims. The new feature will be made available this month globally, including Brazil, and will work through the free "Telefone" app from Google
To use the tool, you will need to install the "Telefone do Google" app and set it as the default app for calls. So, instead of using the calling app that already comes with your cell phone, the device will start making and receiving calls through the Google app.
The new feature will work on cell phones with Android 12 or higher.
One of the examples presented by Google is a connection identified as "Mother". When you answer, the voice sounds exactly like hers. However, the call was made by a criminal who uses artificial intelligence to imitate his voice and try to convince the victim to send money.

With the new feature, when two people use the "Google Phone" application, the devices automatically exchange a silent verification signal during the call. If this confirmation does not happen, the caller's application may display an alert for you to cancel the call.
Google, however, did not explain how the app behaves in situations where the other person uses the cell phone's default calling application, another phone app or even an iPhone, which is not compatible with the "Google Phone".
The company states that it developed this protection based on an open standard, which would allow other device manufacturers and application developers to adopt the same technology in their products.
