Analysis: fuels fall with relief in war
The price of fuel registered a slight drop during the week, according to the survey released by the ANP (National Petroleum Agency). The easing of tensions in the conflict between the United States and Iran is seen as one of the main factors for stabilizing prices.
The analysis was presented by Fernando Nakagawa, Economics analyst at CNN Brasil.
According to him, more than a significant drop, what is observed is an interruption in the cycle of increases that had been repeating itself for several consecutive weeks.
"Prices that rose several weeks in a row are apparently undergoing some accommodation," said Nakagawa. "Mathematically they fell a little bit, but it's better to say they stopped rising."

Among vehicle fuels, ethanol was the one that showed the biggest decline. On the weekly average, the liter was R$4.27, a drop of 2.5%, equivalent to R$0.11 less compared to the previous week.
Gasoline registered an average price of R$6.62, with a decrease of R$0.04, corresponding to a drop of 0.60%. S10 diesel also fell 0.60%, with an average price of R$7.16, also R$0.04 cheaper than last week.
Cooking gas, whose price has been closely monitored, also fell. The cylinder was priced at R$ 114.58, a reduction of approximately R$ 0.20, which represents a drop of 0.20%.
External and internal factors
Nakagawa highlighted that the expectation surrounding peace negotiations between Iran and the United States has contributed to holding down the price of oil on the international market.
"Negotiations for a peace agreement have held back the price of oil, which is no longer rising as much as it was at the worst moment of the war", explained the analyst.
This week, a barrel of oil fluctuated between US$100 and US$110, indicating relative stability in the foreign market.
Another factor that contributed to the accommodation of prices was the normalization of diesel import flows.
According to Nakagawa, even though the product is more expensive, supply is close to normal. Furthermore, the sugarcane harvest period helps explain the sharper drop in ethanol, which is the fuel most directly influenced by the harvest.
Tip for flex-fuel car drivers
For flex-fuel vehicle owners, Nakagawa recommended a simple calculation before filling up: multiply the price of gasoline by 0.7 on your cell phone calculator.
"If the result is higher than the price of ethanol, then it's worth staying in ethanol. If it's lower, then it's worth staying in gasoline", advised the analyst.
