Anac updates rules for transporting portable chargers on flights; see what changes

The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) updated the rules for transporting portable chargers, also known as powerbanks, on flights. The changes were published in the Official Gazette of the Union and announced this Friday (24).
According to the new Supplementary Instruction, portable chargers can only be transported in the following way:
exclusively in hand luggage;
each passenger can take a maximum of two power banks;
the equipment must have a capacity of up to 100 Wh. Chargers with a capacity between 100 Wh and 160 Wh require prior authorization from the airline. Above 160 Wh, transportation is prohibited;
it is prohibited to recharge power banks inside the aircraft;
chargers must be protected against short circuits, with isolated terminals or in the original packaging.

Anac also advises that passengers do not use power banks to charge electronic devices during the flight.
The agency also recommends consulting the airline before boarding, as each company can adopt stricter rules strict.
According to Anac, the changes were adopted to reinforce aviation safety and reduce risks in air transport.
In January, for example, a power bank exploded on a Latam flight that went from São Paulo to Brasília. The incident forced the aircraft to divert its route and land in Ribeirão Preto.
A similar case occurred in August 2025, when a portable charger caught fire on a plane traveling between São Paulo and Amsterdam.
