Flamengo x Palmeiras will be Gustavo Gómez's first game after receiving the honor. The Alviverde idol was honored in the trophy room in recognition of everything he built at the club.

Gómez is the athlete who has won the most cups with the Palmeiras shirt, 13 in total, in addition to being the third Alviverde athlete with the most games this century. This Saturday's duel (23) will be his 411th since 2018.

But this story could have another destiny. Gustavo Gómez came into Flamengo's sights when he was still playing in Italian football.

Everything happened in the middle of 2018. Flamengo was looking for a defender for the Brazilian Championship that year and opened talks with Milan.

However, Palmeiras prevailed, and the Paraguayan defender was announced days later on loan, to replace Colombian Yerry Mina.

"There were conversations with some teams, like Flamengo, but I had been talking to the director of Palmeiras for a long time and he told me about the club's project", commented Gómez during his presentation at Alviverde.

How Flamengo and Palmeiras arrive
Leader of the Brazilian Championship with 35 points, Palmeiras comes from three consecutive draws in the competition. In the middle of the week, they suffered a defeat to Cerro Porteño in the Libertadores, at home, which resulted in the loss of the leadership of Group F.

Flamengo, in turn, guaranteed its early qualification for the round of 16 of the Libertadores, but was eliminated by Vitória in the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil. In the Brasileirão, Rubro-Negro has accumulated one victory and two draws in the last three games and remains in second place with 31 points.
