Amid rape trial, Hakimi receives boos in Scotland vs Morocco

Accused of rape by a 24-year-old woman in France, in 2023, right-back Achraf Hakimi, from Paris Saint-Germain and the Morocco national team, was the target of intense booing from the Scottish fans whenever he touched the ball during the second round clash of the 2026 World Cup, this Friday (19).

The Morocco winger and star had an appeal denied in French justice and will be tried on charges of rape. As a result, the Moroccan will go on trial for the crime in French justice.

Before the match, Hakimi said he was awaiting trial for rape to "finally speak".

"Today, a story that is not mine is being told at the expense of my family, my life and, most of all, the truth. Sometimes I feel like I have become an easy target," wrote Hakimi on X.
