"American Dream": USA seeks to beat Australia to guarantee place

The United States, host country for the 2026 World Cup, beat Paraguay 4-1 in their Group D debut. The result gave the North Americans the chance to guarantee qualification for the knockout stages with a victory over Australia this Friday (19), at 4pm (Brasília time), at Lumen Field, in Seattle.

On the other hand, Australia could also advance if they win, after a surprising 2-0 victory over Turkey in the first round.

The great individual highlights for the United States in the 2026 World Cup debut, at SoFi Stadium, were striker Folarin Balogun and winger Christian Pulisic. The team led by Mauricio Pochettino dominated offensive actions from the start of the match.

The Monaco center forward was the name of the game when he found the net twice. He scored the USA's second goal in the 31st minute, taking advantage of an assist from Pulisic, and, in stoppage time of the first half, scored a great goal by clearing the marker and hitting the angle.

Pulisic, number 10 for the United States, had a brilliant first half, being the main offensive weapon on the left side. He participated in the first goal (own goal) and provided the precise assist for Balogun's first goal after overcoming the Paraguayan defense.
