Amazon brings Alexa+ to Brazil and bets on AI like ChatGPT to renew virtual assistant
Amazon announced this Thursday (18) the launch of Alexa+ in Brazil. The new version of the virtual assistant now uses generative artificial intelligence, technology similar to ChatGPT, and is now capable of performing more complex tasks.
Alexa+ has been available in the United States since 2025 and is now arriving in Brazil costing R$99.90 per month for those who want to hire it separately. Amazon Prime subscribers, which costs R$ 19.90 per month, will have access to the new version at no additional cost.

Amazon claims that the "turbocharged" Alexa will work on most Echo devices, with the exception of first generation models. The feature begins to be gradually released to customers starting this Thursday. Interested parties can join the access queue via the Amazon website or by saying "Alexa, I want Alexa+" to the assistant.
"Tens of thousands of customers will be invited in the coming weeks, with continued expansion", stated the company.

According to Amazon, anyone who buys new devices from the brand from today onwards will have early access to the new feature.
Before Alexa+, the Amazon assistant was mainly based on pre-programmed commands and predictive models. With generative AI, it can perform more complex tasks, following the path of smarter AIs such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.
The main difference compared to the current Alexa is in the way it talks to the user. According to Amazon, Alexa+ has more natural interactions, understands Brazilian expressions, including regional ones, and leaves aside part of the more robotic behavior of previous versions.
In addition, the assistant can handle multiple commands in the same conversation and has memory, which allows you to return to previously discussed topics.
According to Amazon, it can learn user preferences, such as musical styles and dietary restrictions, check calendar appointments and even compose or send emails, as long as it is connected to the email service used by the person.

Alexa+ can also perform more personalized actions. For example, if the user just says that they are cold, it can automatically reduce the air conditioning temperature, as long as the device is connected to the platform.
The company also said that, "very soon", it will be possible to ask Alexa+ to call an Uber. Upon receiving the command, the assistant will confirm the destination, car category, value, estimated time of arrival and request the race.
The process, however, will not be instantaneous. In demonstrations carried out by Amazon, Alexa took a few minutes to complete the task. According to the company, this happens because the assistant needs to connect to external services, such as Uber, to perform the action.
Amazon also announced a new Alexa+ application, which will allow users to continue interacting with the assistant even when they are away from home.
