Amaury Jr. completes 50 years of career with program in the USA: "Everything has changed"
Fifty years after debuting on television, journalist Amaury Jr., 75, is preparing a new chapter in his career, living in a new country. The presenter will lead an unprecedented program on TV Connect USA, a broadcaster aimed at the Brazilian community in the United States and affiliated with CNN Newsource, which debuts shortly after the 2026 World Cup.
In an interview with CNN Brasil, the veteran stated that the new venture represents the opportunity to put into practice everything he learned over five decades on TV, now in a completely different scenario.
"I always joke that now, after 50 years of working, I've finally learned everything. I learned by doing. Now I'm anxious about showing everyone what I've learned over these decades making television", said the professional.
According to the presenter, the attraction will preserve elements that marked its trajectory, but with a renewed proposal.
"I know it's very difficult to present something absolutely new, but I think I've come up with a formula that brings things that my viewers have always liked, just in a different way."
Interviews, travel and the B side of Florida
The new program will maintain trademarks of Amaury's trajectory, such as interviews with personalities, coverage of events and travel, but with a new editorial approach. According to him, the idea is to escape the traditional itineraries around Florida - more specifically the city of Orlando.
"When we go to a destination, I don't want to show what the public is already tired of seeing. If it's Paris, I don't want to show the Eiffel Tower. I want to discover new things", he expressed.
Having lived in Orlando for over 25 years, Amaury wants to explore a "lesser known" view of the city.
"I've shown the parks countless times. Orlando has museums, universities, theater, gastronomy and a very rich cultural life. I want to show this side that few people know about."
In addition to the new content, the program will also bring back historical moments from its collection, with excerpts from remarkable interviews carried out throughout his career with names in entertainment, politics, business and sport.
Television has changed
For Amaury, television needed to reinvent itself in the face of changes brought about by the internet and new ways of consuming content, especially in recent years. And the program intends to follow this trend.
"Everything changed after the pandemic, after the internet. I'm from the time before the internet. When I was on the air, it didn't even exist", he said.
Even after five decades of career, he says he remains motivated by challenges.
"My obligation is to keep up with these changes. Now that I'm ready, am I going to get out? No. I want to do it too."
"Instead of lamenting the competition from the internet, I went to the internet. I have YouTube, a blog, Instagram. I incorporated the internet. I think television and the internet can go hand in hand", he added.
TV and internet can coexist
Despite the rise of digital platforms, Amaury believes that open television continues to play an important role in Brazil. "Brazil is still a country where many people cannot afford to pay for platforms. Open TV plays a very important role."
At the same time, he argues that the two formats complement each other. "I didn't fight with the internet. I think both can go together very well and enrich the content."
For Dony De Nuccio, CEO of TV Connect USA, the arrival of the presenter reinforces the expansion of the broadcaster aimed at Brazilians living in the United States.
"Amaury arrives at TV Connect USA at a decisive moment in the broadcaster's expansion and with an energy very aligned with that of our audience: Brazilians who reinvent themselves outside the country, undertake, open new paths and remain deeply connected to Brazil."
According to the executive, the hiring represents another step in the consolidation of the channel. "Having Amaury with us is more than an honor. He has already made history on Brazilian television and now he joins us to make history in communicating with Brazilians in the United States."
