Almost 85% of road accidents are caused by human error

A study shows that 84.1% of accidents on highways are caused by human error, involving three main factors: late reaction, lack of reaction and incompatible speed. The data was released in the midst of Yellow May, the campaign that seeks to raise awareness among the population about reducing accidents and deaths in traffic.

The research carried out by the CNT (National Transport Confederation), and analyzed by Platform Science, points out that, currently: video telemetry systems, fatigue sensors and tracking allow monitoring the driver's behavior, anticipating risks and intervening before an accident happens.

"There is a historical stigma that the truck is the villain on the roads, but the data shows that the problem lies in human behavior, not the type of vehicle. In structured operations, the truck is, in fact, the most monitored element on the road, with technology and protocols that significantly reduce risks", says Rony Neri, executive director of Platform Science.

Technology can help transform these indicators, according to the study.

Before the trip even begins, some current equipment helps to carry out safety checklists, assessments of drivers' physical conditions and ergonomic guidance. Furthermore, constant training in defensive driving helps to enable drivers to anticipate third-party errors and adopt preventive driving.
