Almost 500 kg of drugs valued at R$10 million are seized in SP

Almost 500 kg of drugs hidden in a refrigerated truck were seized, on Thursday afternoon (4), on the Washington Luís highway, in São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo. The action caused an estimated loss of more than R$10.1 million for organized crime.

In the action, the driver of the vehicle was arrested for drug trafficking.

According to the SSP-SP (São Paulo Public Security Secretariat), the truck, which left Boca do Acre, in Amazonas, for Campo Limpo Paulista, in the interior of São Paulo, was transporting 29 tons of chilled beef - in addition to around 458 kg of drugs.

During the inspection, the police identified irregularities in the cargo seals, when a sniffer dog from the team also indicated the possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle compartment.

In total, around 350 kg of skunk, 94 kg of cocaine base paste, 6 kg of cocaine and 9 kg of marijuana seeds were seized. In addition to the drugs, the police collected the truck, the semi-trailer, cell phones and the cargo used to hide the drugs.

According to the police, between January and April this year, 50.9 tons of drugs were seized throughout the state of São Paulo. Most of them (about 32.1 tons) were marijuana.
