Almodóvar calls Donald Trump a 'monster' and says artists have a duty to take a stand

Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar in action on the film set: feature film marks reunion with actor Antonio Banderas more than 20 years after 'Tie Me Up' to become a kind of shield against these monsters, like Trump, Netanyahu or the Russians. We are obliged because here, yes, we obey international laws", declared in a press conference the Spanish director, who wore a brooch with the words "Free Palestine", in reference to the leaders of the United States, Israel and Russia.
"In Europe, yes, there are laws. Trump needs to know that there is a limit to all his delusions and his madness and that Europe will never be vassal towards Trump's policies", added the director.
For Almodóvar, the artist, "from his small tribune [...] he must speak without synonyms, he must speak with his face uncovered about the worst that is happening, and too many terrible things are happening to us every day".

"It seems like a moral duty to me", concluded the filmmaker.
A few days ago, Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who stars in another film in competition, also criticized the three rulers and their "toxic masculinity", which, according to him, caused thousands of deaths.
Almodóvar is competing for the Palme d'Or for the seventh time, an award he has never won, despite having two Oscars and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
The director of "Tudo Sobre Minha Mãe" and "Volver" stated that he never traveled to Cannes "with the feeling of a winner".
