All the urban legends and fake news about Xuxa's pact with the devil
Presenter Xuxa Meneghel, 63, spoke about rumors that she had a pact with the devil in an interview last Thursday (17). The rumor has covered the celebrity's life since the 1980s, when she worked as a star on children's shows.
In "Sem Censura", on TV Brasil, the artist denied that she had made any supernatural agreement to be successful. She attributed all the good things she accumulated throughout her life to God. However, several fake news impacted the celebrity's life in the past.
"Ilariê" backwards
One of the first rumors reporting a supposed connection between the celebrity and the evil being emerged as an urban legend involving the songs "Ilariê" and "Doce Mel". They would reveal a message about the devil when the vinyl "Xou da Xuxa" (1986) was played backwards.
Some of the songs had subliminal messages that said "my angel is the devil", among other hidden lines. The rumors are known to the artist, who has made a point of denying several times that the songs have hidden messages.
In an interview with Ilha X Play, in 2020, the artist said that she got upset when she saw her children's songs being related to something bad. "What's the idiocy of listening backwards if the music wasn't made to listen backwards?", he said.
Marquei um X
In 1992, the release of the song "Marquei um X" caused a stir among conspiracists. Xuxa repeats the title phrase three times, with x "sounding" like "six", the number 6 in English. The sequence "666" is referred to as the number of the beast, that is, another reference to the devil.
Square ring
Since the 1980s, Xuxa has worn a golden, square ring. The jewel would represent an "alliance" between the presenter and the devil.
The presenter explained that she received the ring from her employee, Mônica, who got married more than 40 years ago, on March 13th. Since her birthday was on the 27th of the same month, she asked her friend for a similar gift.
To present the programs, she always took the jewelry off her finger, but in a publicity photo for a work, she ended up leaving the item on display, drawing public attention at the time.
Name Xuxa
Even the name Xuxa became the target of conspiracy theories. Her nickname would be a mixture of "Exu" and "Orixá", religious entities of African origin. The blonde explained that her name was given by her brother, who was only 2 years old at her birth.
Killer doll
In 1989, a rumor suggested that Xuxa's doll had killed a child in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo. The press even covered the story at the time, something that was repudiated by the artist.
She said that a street vendor reported that her doll had been counterfeited, and sales of the toy helped him put food at home and pay for his children's education, but his financial situation plummeted after the rumor spread.
"I didn't know if I was upset that the guy had faked my doll, but then I was thinking how they could come up with something like that. They took away the guy's livelihood", she lamented.
Face from above
Another subliminal message suggested that Xuxa could not speak the name of God in her songs because of the pact, which is why she referred to the deity as "the guy from above" in the song "Lua de Cristal", one of her biggest hits.
What does Xuxa say about the subject?
The presenter said on the podcast "Quem é Você Nesse Rolê?", by Thais Fersoza, that she wouldn't be as successful if she were a devil worshiper.
"It's impossible to have everything I had, to experience everything I've experienced, not only in this country, but in several countries abroad (if it weren't for God)", declared the blonde.
Xuxa added: "I don't have (a pact). I can't have it. A person who has everything I have doesn't have that possibility. They don't want to believe that I'm a favorite of the guy upstairs, that's fine. Let me believe."
In 2020, on Ilha X Play, the artist stated that she never paid attention to the rumors. "At the time I saw it and laughed. I don't think it ever bothered me. It can't be true. How do people think I have a pact with the guy down there if everything I have comes from the guy up there", he said.
