Alcolumbre urges caution regarding proposals that impact public accounts

The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), warned in the plenary on Tuesday (9) about the queue of proposals that impact public accounts and await a vote in the House. He justified his commitment to fiscal responsibility by saying that he cannot guide projects of this type.

In a long speech, Alcolumbre cited several proposals that increase the salary floor for categories or that grant special pensions to certain groups.

Materials that benefit physiotherapists, dentists, nursing technicians, street cleaners, education technicians, veterinarians and community health agents are processed in the House, for example. In Alcolumbre's view, the electoral period influences senators to be in favor of the texts, even with expected financial impact.

"In an election year, this is very complex. Because whatever I put up for voting, everyone will vote 'yes' because of the election, and they will have to find 'ten Brazils' to pay. And then I'm the one to blame who doesn't want to give a floor for the doctor. The floor for the doctor who saves people's lives in the emergency room; the floor for the nurse. My God, we're going to give it! But can Brazil handle this? Will Brazil resist? Will the public finances resist?", declared.

The president of the Senate did not directly mention the proposal on the end of the 6×1 work schedule, defended by the government. The Executive states that the economy can absorb the changes, while businesspeople fear the risk of increases in production costs.

The matter was approved in the Chamber with a total transition period of 14 months and is now awaiting analysis in the Senate, which depends on a referral from Alcolumbre.

"The problem that has to be resolved is what we are actually going to deliberate on, because there are many complex issues of all kinds. And as, unfortunately or not, I am being charged by many of my colleagues, I am, therefore, very sad to have to constantly say 'I can't decide', 'the Brazilian State will not resist', 'Brazilian municipalities will not be able to pay'", said Alcolumbre.

The president's speech, held yesterday, was motivated by an appeal from senator Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES) in favor of a proposal that increases the salary minimum for street cleaners and daisies, responsible for urban cleaning.

This Wednesday (10), contrary to the caution advocated by Alcolumbre, the Senate's CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) approved the special retirement for community health agents and the text will go to the queue of proposals awaiting a vote in the plenary.
