Alckmin: Government will work with the private sector to avoid tariffs

The vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, stated that the Brazilian government will work to ensure that the recommendation to impose 25% tariffs on Brazilian imports by the United States is not converted.

The speech took place this Tuesday (2), after a meeting of Brazilian government ministers to discuss a reaction to the recommendation of the USTR (United States Trade Representative).

"We understand that the recommendation is completely unreasonable, and President Lula's government will work to ensure that it does not become converted, so that it does not occur. It is a recommendation made by the USTR, and the path, is the path of dialogue", said the vice-president.

In addition, Alckmin also said that negotiations must also involve the private sector, and highlighted the importance of trade relations between Brazil and the USA.

"We are going to involve the private sector, Amcham, American companies. We have almost four thousand American companies in Brazil, which invest in the country. We have important foreign trade, the USA is the third largest buyer and the third largest seller for us, so it is important. So the entire private sector, let's unite everyone, uniting the country in defense of national sovereignty, and in the interests of the Brazilian people", he said.
