AI attracts institutional capital and increases pressure on cryptocurrencies
The strong appreciation of artificial intelligence companies has caused a change in the flow of global investments.
According to BlackRock, the largest asset manager in the world, part of the capital that was previously directed to the cryptocurrency market started to migrate to companies linked to AI, in search of greater return opportunities.
The movement occurs at a time of strong correction in the crypto market. After reaching around $4.3 trillion in October 2025, the market value of cryptocurrencies has fallen to approximately $2 trillion in recent weeks.
Bernardo Pascowitch, presenter of Resenha do Dinheiro, states that the scenario reflects a change in strategy by institutional investors, who tend to direct resources to assets with greater profitability potential.
"The institutional investor is not concerned with defending a specific thesis. He seeks returns for the portfolio and, given the fall in cryptocurrencies, he started looking for assets with greater potential for appreciation", he observes.
This movement has intensified the fall of bitcoin, which is already going through a historically weaker period within the cryptocurrency cycle, known as "crypto winter".
"Bitcoin has already been in a year of devaluation, but competition with artificial intelligence companies ended up deepening this movement", says Pascowitch.
In addition to these factors, there is also the situation of Strategy, a company led by Michael Saylor and which has increased market volatility in recent weeks.
According to Bernardo, the need to reinforce cash could lead the company to sell part of its cryptocurrency reserves.
"If Strategy needs to sell a significant amount of bitcoins to raise cash, the market could interpret this movement in a very negative way", he assesses.
For the expert, an eventual large-scale sale would have the potential to further increase pressure on prices, especially in an environment of lower liquidity and greater caution on the part of investors.
