Agricultural aviation predicts improvement for kerosene with Petrobras reduction

The agricultural aviation sector believes that the improvement in aviation kerosene prices is concentrated in the medium and long term. The assessment comes after Petrobras reduced the average selling price of QAV (aviation kerosene) to distributors by 14.2% as of June.

The decrease announced by the company last Monday corresponds to a decrease of R$ 0.93 per liter and aims to alleviate prices in a scenario of high prices influenced by the geopolitical tensions of the ongoing War in the Middle East.

According to the National Union of Agricultural Aviation Companies (Sindag), inflation on aviation fuels impacts the food production chain in the Brazilian economy with increases in gasoline and aviation kerosene, which represents 30% of the agricultural aviation fleet in the national territory.

Claudio Junior Oliveira, economist and operational director at Sindag, highlights that the fuel is the most used in the sector. "Although we have different types of fuel, aircraft powered by aviation kerosene (Jet A-1) represent the majority of the operation, precisely because consumption is much higher. In Brazil, the use of this fuel is even more significant," he told CNN Brasil

In April, according to Sindag, aviation kerosene had an inflation of 51.6% and had an average price of R$8.46. Sindag highlights that inflation is mainly due to geopolitical volatility, and harms the aeroagricultural operation in Brazil, concentrated in the Center-West.

According to Petrobras, this year, QAV prices registered an increase of 54.5%, equivalent to an increase of R$1.98 per liter, compared to the price of fuel in December 2025. With the announcement, adjustments take place at the beginning of the month.

The economist highlighted the gradual impact of the reduction announced by Petrobras. "Our understanding is that, in the short term, there will not be a significant reduction in prices. The expectation of improvement is more concentrated in the medium and long term", he highlighted.

Although part of the fuel consumed in Brazil does not directly depend on the maritime route damaged by the conflict, the prices that are defined internationally impact the Brazilian market. "Our main concern continues to be the Strait of Hormuz and the viability of ships passing through the region. We need to reestablish both consumption and sales", he highlighted.

"The market ended up changing. We are experiencing something similar to what happened after the pandemic, a new normal marked by high inflation and high interest rates. This is not only happening in Brazil, but also in other economies, such as the United States", he concluded.
