On Sunday afternoon (7), midfielder Ederson, currently at Atalanta, in Italy, and who played for Corinthians between the beginning of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, was called up by Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti to defend the Brazilian team in the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada, between June 11th and July 19th.
The midfielder replaced right-back Wesley, revealed by Flamengo and now at Roma, in Italy, who ended up being cut after suffering a muscle injury to the adductor muscle of his left thigh, according to a statement released by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The injury occurred in the first half of Amarelinha's 2-1 victory against Egypt, in the last friendly before the start of the biggest national team tournament in the world.

Éderson has not been called up by Ancelotti since May 2025, when he was with the Brazil group in the friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay, in the South American Qualifiers for this year's World Cup. In total, there are three games wearing the Canarinho shirt and 119 minutes on the field. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, specialized in international transfers, Manchester United, from England, reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign the athlete for the 2026/2027 season.
The negotiation could reach 45 million euros (R$ 286.6 million at the current price). Of this total, Corinthians should be entitled to just over R$2 million from the FIFA Solidarity Mechanism - he played for Timão when he was between 20 and 22 years old. Éderson, as mentioned, arrived at Corinthians in March 2020 after standing out for Cruzeiro, which had been relegated to Série B the previous year.
In total, there were three goals in 25 games with the Corinthians shirt, 10 wins, seven draws and eight defeats - 49.33% success rate. With no space in Timão's squad, at the beginning of 2021, he was loaned to Fortaleza, where he was one of the team's main highlights in that year's Brazilian Championship. The northeastern team even qualified for the 2022 Conmebol Libertadores, as they finished the national competition in the G4.
Later, in 2022, it was sold by Corinthians to Salternitana, from Italy, for 6.5 million euros (R$39 million at the time), keeping 70% of the value (around R$27 million), referring to the economic rights it held for the athlete. There, he played for one season (2021/2022), until being sold to Atalanta in 2022/2023.
