Corinthians is back in the knockout phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. Despite being defeated by Juventude 1-0, this Wednesday afternoon, in Caxias do Sul, Timãozinho guaranteed qualification to the quarter-finals of the national competition for the first time since 2023.

The team led by William Batista ended the first phase in eighth place, with 29 points achieved in 19 matches. The black and white campaign was built with eight wins, five draws and five defeats, in addition to 31 goals scored and 25 conceded. With their place secured, Corinthians will face Palmeiras in the knockout stage.

The Parque São Jorge club depended solely on itself to confirm the classification. A victory over Juventude would guarantee the place without the need to monitor other results. However, the defeat forced Timãozinho to hope for a stumble by Flamengo, who drew with Avaí and ended up being left out of the G8.

The return to the knockout stage represents an important step for the category, which had not reached the knockout stages of the national tournament for two seasons. Corinthians' last participation in the quarter-finals took place in 2023, when the team had one of its best campaigns in the competition.

In that edition, Timãozinho ended the first phase in second place in Group A and advanced to the quarter-finals to face Grêmio. The Gauchos were beaten on two occasions, both 2-1, with the highlight being striker Giovane, who reinforced the under-20 squad during the decisive stretch.

The journey, however, ended in the semi-final against Palmeiras. In the first confrontation, the rival won 5-1 and advanced to the classification. In the return match, played at the Neo Química Arena, Alviverde triumphed again, this time 1-0, eliminating Corinthians.

Since then, the club has faced difficulties in the national competition. In 2024, Timãozinho finished the first phase in only 18th place, gaining 18 points and carrying out one of its worst campaigns in the tournament. In 2025, the team once again fought against the bottom of the table and ended its participation in 15th place, just five points above the relegation zone.

This year's classification, therefore, marks Corinthians' recovery on the national stage of the category. Despite the stumble against Juventude, the black and white team ended the first phase among the top eight in the country and returns to compete in the knockout stages of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship after two years of absence.

Now, the challenge will be against Palmeiras, the opponent responsible for Corinthians' last elimination in the competition. The quarter-final clash pits two historic rivals face to face and offers Timãozinho the opportunity to seek a revenge and stay alive in the fight for the national title.
