After record-breaking Coachella, Justin Bieber negotiates show at the World Cup final
Singer Justin Bieber, 34, would be in negotiations with FIFA to perform at the halftime show of the 2026 World Cup final. The information comes from the American website TMZ, which published the possibility of the singer joining Shakira and Madonna in the match on July 18, in Miami.
The artist was present at the opening ceremony on June 12, in Los Angeles. The public appearance increased rumors about Bieber being one of the attractions of the tournament final. The 2026 World Cup final will, for the first time in history, have a musical show at halftime, in the same style as the Super Bowl. The main attractions already announced are Shakira, Madonna and the South Korean group BTS.
Coachella marked an interruption in his career
The Canadian singer was on a sabbatical from shows four years ago to treat health problems. In April, he broke the hiatus with a historic show at the Coachella festival, in a performance that brought together more than 125,000 people in California. On the show, he performed classics from his career, such as "That Should Be Me", "Baby" and "Favorite Girl", which marked his worldwide success at the age of 16.
He last appeared live in front of tens of thousands of people at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil in 2022, but a lot has happened offstage since Bieber last performed in front of an audience of this size.
Prior to last year's release of a pair of "Swag" albums, his last effort was 2021's "Justice." He was on the world tour in support of that album in 2023 when he was forced to cancel the remaining tour dates due to health issues, sharing that he had Ramsey Hunt Syndrome, a nerve disorder that caused the singer temporary facial paralysis.
Bieber is no stranger to Coachella. He has participated as a spectator and made sporadic appearances during other artists' performances, including with Ariana Grande in 2019 and Daniel Caesar and Giveon in 2022. Sources linked to the artist indicated that the success of the presentation led conversations to a new major event.
