After losing his son, Gakpo is emotional after scoring a goal in the World Cup

Netherlands striker Cody Gakpo was emotional after scoring a goal in the match between the Netherlands and Morocco in the round of 16 of the World Cup. When the match was 0-0, number 11 opened the scoring and was immediately moved to tears.

This is because last week, Gakpo and Noa van der Bij, his girlfriend, announced that the baby they were expecting died as a result of a miscarriage. Follow the match live here.

The news was shared by the couple last Saturday (27), in a joint post on social media.

"With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our baby passed away during pregnancy. Thank you for all the love and support. Elijah Raphael Gakpo. Forever loved. Forever our son," the text reads.

Gakpo and Noa have been together since 2020 and have a son, little Samuel, born in April 2024.

Gakpo chose to remain in the World Cup
According to Dutch newspapers, the couple decided that the player would remain in the United States to compete in the World Cup even in the midst of the delicate situation.

He started every game, and scored three goals - two in the 5-1 rout of Sweden - as well as this one against Morocco. This is also his sixth in World Cup history.
