After judicial suspension, Tuma defends consensus to enable Corinthians' statutory reform
By Larissa Beppler | Central do Timão newsroom
The president of the Deliberative Council of Corinthians Romeu Tuma Júnior confirmed this Friday (19) the suspension of the General Assembly of members that would vote on the proposal to reform the club's statute. The decision comes in compliance with the determination of the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP), which interrupted the voting scheduled for this Saturday (20).
In an official statement released by the Council presidency, Tuma stated that the meeting will remain suspended until a possible judicial decision to the contrary or until the emergence of a supervening fact that authorizes its holding.

The leader also reiterated the body's commitment to respecting the decisions of the Judiciary. According to him, although there may be individual differences regarding certain understandings of Justice, the Deliberative Council will continue to observe institutional respect and democratic principles.
Despite the suspension of the election, the president of the Council highlighted that he considers it urgent to update Corinthians' statute. According to the statement, the adaptation of the text is necessary to align the club's internal legislation with the country's new legal requirements, the transformations in the sporting scenario and contemporary governance, transparency and financial management practices.
Tuma also stated that he intends to promote dialogue between the different sectors involved in the statutory reform process. The intention, according to him, is to build a consensual solution capable of meeting the interests considered legitimate of the parties participating in the discussions.
The objective declared by the presidency of the Deliberative Council is to make a text viable that can be resubmitted to members in a timely manner so that any changes can come into force during the club's next elections, scheduled for November this year.
At the end of the note, Tuma appealed to partners, advisors and other Corinthians fans to seek an understanding around the reform. The leader asked that discussions be conducted above individual interests and personal vanities, in the name of preserving Corinthians' interests.
The suspension of the General Assembly is yet another development in the club's long process of statutory review, a topic that has generated intense debates in Corinthians' internal bodies, among members and fans, and which is now also subject to review by the Judiciary.
Understand the suspension of the Assembly
The General Assembly that would vote on the proposal to reform Corinthians' statute was suspended by decision of the Court of Justice of São Paulo after life counselors questioned in court the regularity of the process of preparing and convening the matter.
In analyzing the appeal, judge Maurício Campos da Silva Velho understood that there are relevant signs of possible irregularities in the process of the statutory reform and, to prevent possible defects from taking effect before the definitive analysis of the case, he ordered the precautionary suspension of the effects of the notice calling for the meeting scheduled for Saturday.
Check out, in full, the note released by the president of the Corinthians Deliberative Council:
In view of the judicial decision handed down by the TJ/SP, which determined the suspension of the General Assembly of Members of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, called for Saturday, June 20, 2026, as President of the Deliberative Council, I clarify the following, for the information of members, advisors, fans, press organizations, segmented social media outlets and Corinthians in general:
1 - The General Assembly called to vote on the reform of the Club's Bylaws, next Saturday, 06/20/2026, is suspended until a judicial decision to the contrary or until a supervening event authorizes it.
2 - The Deliberative Council has always respected the Judiciary and will continue to do so, even if some of its members do not agree with possible judicial decisions, which is characteristic of democracy, always observing due and necessary respect between institutions.
3 - Regardless of the court decision, given the urgent need for the Bylaws of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista to adapt to the country's new laws, new sporting realities and new structuring practices of governance, transparency and finance, this Presidency will seek to join efforts and dialogue with all actors who wish the good of our institution, with the aim of finding a solution that meets the legitimate interests of all parties involved in this long process of statutory reform, which has already been going on for almost a decade.
The purpose is to preserve the greater interest of Corinthians by seeking understanding on a viable text, which can be submitted for deliberation by members within a sufficient period of time for it to come into force during the next elections, scheduled for November.
4 - In this sense, I call on everyone, in the search for understanding, devoid of minor interests and vanities, to make a final effort in the name of respect and love that everyone says they have for Corinthians.
São Paulo, June 19, 2026.
Romeu Tuma Junior
President of the SCCP Deliberative Council
