After international success, Tânia Maria shoots a new film with Jesuíta Barbosa

After gaining international prominence as Dona Sebastiana in the film "The Secret Agent", actress Tânia Maria from Rio Grande do Norte has already returned to the film set for a new project on the big screen.

She is part of the cast of "Sábado Morto", a feature film currently being filmed in Recife and in the interior of Pernambuco directed by Leonardo Lacca.

Starring actor Jesuíta Barbosa, the film portrays the trajectory of a resident doctor forced to return to his hometown after an unexpected event. The production is a partnership between Trincheira Filmes (by Lacca), Cinemascope (by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Emilie Lesclaux) and the Chilean production company Planta.

In an interview with the North American magazine Variety, director Leonardo Lacca - who was Kleber Mendonça Filho's assistant in the film that represented Brazil at this year's Oscar - celebrated the new collaboration with the actress. "Working with Tânia is always wonderful. It's great to film with her again and with a character whose path is so different from what she's done before. It's wonderful to see how versatile she is."

Lacca also highlighted the artist's impact on the daily recordings and the strong connection established between the two behind the scenes. "Her presence lights up the set and everyone is enchanted and captivated by her. We gain intimacy and build a relationship between grandmother and grandson. There is so much beauty in this transformation of her life, in her discovery as an actress, which ends up spilling over into our personal relationships as well."

In addition to Tânia Maria and Jesuíta Barbosa, the drama's cast includes actors Malu Falangola, Múcia Teixeira and Matteus Cardoso.

Before becoming a worldwide phenomenon with The Secret Agent - a role that led her to be considered for a place in the Best Supporting Actress category at the Oscars -, the professional from Rio Grande do Norte worked as an extra in the feature film Bacurau. His meteoric career also includes credits in the film Yellow Cake and the series Delegado.
