After elimination in the group stage, South Korea coach resigns

After being eliminated in the group stage, coach Hong Myung-Bo resigned and left command of the South Korean team this Sunday (28).

The announcement was made by the coach himself during a press conference. Hong Myung's departure comes amid criticism from South Korean President Lee Jae Myung regarding the team's elimination.

"I deeply apologize to the Korean public who supported our team. I intend to resign as head coach of the national team today (Sunday). Accepting this position has never been an easy choice, but from the moment I accepted it, my sole focus has been to fulfill my responsibilities responsibly until the end," he said.

The team came in third place in Group A, but the three points gained were not enough for the team to secure a place among the eight best third-placed teams that advanced to the second phase.

In their debut, the South Koreans beat the Czech Republic 2-1, and lost to Mexico and South Africa - both games 1-0.
