The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Monday (1st) that he spoke with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and with representatives of Hezbollah. He assured that a ceasefire is in effect between the parties in Lebanon and that Netanyahu has agreed not to move Israeli troops toward Beirut.
"I had a very productive conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, Bibi Netanyahu, and there will be no troops on the way to Beirut. Any troops that were on the way have already been blocked from entering," Trump said on his social media site, Truth Social.
"Likewise, through high-level representatives, I had a very good conversation with the Hezbollah, and they agreed that all firing will cease - that Israel will not attack them and that they will not attack Israel," the post says.
Earlier, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Tehran decided to stop exchanging messages with mediators on the memorandum of understanding with the US following Israel's renewed attacks on Lebanon, including evacuation orders and bombing warnings for the capital, Beirut, on Monday.
On Saturday, Israel had captured the historic Beaufort Castle, in Lebanon, built at the time of the Crusades, in the deepest incursion of troops into the country in 26 years.

In his weekly press conference, the spokesman for Iranian diplomacy, Esmaeil Baghaei, commented on the expansion of Israeli operations in Lebanese territory and said that the end of the attacks is essential to peace talks:
"We insist that a ceasefire in Lebanon is an essential condition for any agreement aimed at ending the war."
The spokesman also accused Washington of continuing to violate the ceasefire with Tehran and stated that Iran will not hesitate to adopt any measures it deems necessary to defend its national security.
"The United States is also violating the ceasefire, including this morning. Violations of the ceasefire are, in themselves, indicative of misconduct and bad faith on the part of the US and only intensify the existing distrust, which, rightly, must always remain in our minds, in any interaction with the American side", he declared.
